Speedy Gonzales

1983-08-05 Daffy Duck's Movie: Fantastic Island
Release date: 1983-08-05
Plot: Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales, stranded on a deserted island, stumble upon a treasure map that leads them to a talking wishing well. Ever the greedy opportunist, Daffy decides to turn the island into a tourist resort, selling wishes to eager visitors. The guests' wishes are granted through the projection of classic Looney Tunes shorts, cleverly woven into the plot. Meanwhile, pirate Yosemite Sam and his partner Taz are hot on their trail, determined to reclaim the map that once belonged to them.
Name and role: Speedy Gonzales takes on the role of Tattoo, the short-statured assistant made famous by his iconic cry "De plane! De plane!" as guests arrive on the island. It's a clear, cheeky nod to Fantasy Island, with Speedy energetically announcing each arrival in true cartoon style. Sad note, though: technically, by the end of the film, Speedy chokes on a burrito: a moment that's brushed off entirely, as if narrative closure was too much to ask for. Apparently, cartoon mortality just isn't a big deal if it's served with salsa.
Trivia and other appearances: Speedy and Daffy made for a rather puzzling duo throughout the 1960s, appearing together in a string of Looney Tunes shorts that... well, let's just say they didn't represent the golden age of the franchise. Many of these cartoons are infamous for their low production values, repetitive gags, and the general vibe of "we ran out of ideas, but the studio needs something on Thursday"

1995 Commercial
Brand: Canon
Release date: 1995-??-??

1996-11-10 Space Jam
Release date: 1996-11-10
Plot: Basketball legend Michael Jordan teams up with Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes to win a wild basketball game against alien villains called the Monstars. The aliens stole NBA players' talents, so it's up to Jordan and the Tunes to slam, jam, and bring the chaos. It's sports meets cartoons in the most 90s crossover ever.
Name and role: Speedy Gonzales only appears in the scenes where Jordan is brought into the Looney world. You'd think: with someone that fast and that tiny, he'd be the ultimate secret weapon against the Monstars. And yet... they put Sniffles on the team.
Trivia and other appearances: Speedy Gonzales has had a stellar career among the Looney elite. Beyond this film, he shows up in all sorts of cameos, even popping up in commercials.

2000-02-29 Tweety's High Flying Adventure
Release date: 2000-02-29
Plot: In the same vein as The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, here comes a charming little direct-to-video movie with Tweety in the spotlight. A globe-trotting adventure, reuniting with the rest of the Looney Tunes gang and staying one tiny step ahead of Sylvester and a whole slew of hungry cats of all shapes and sizes
Name and role: Speedy Gonzales naturally appears in the Mexican segment. He gives Tweety both a passport stamp and a lucky amulet that will have the same impact on the story as Speedy himself: absolutely none.

2003-11-01 Looney Tunes: Back in Action
Release date: 2003-11-01
Plot: Daffy Duck, feeling overshadowed by Bugs Bunny, is fired from Warner Bros. and teams up with security guard DJ Drake. They embark on a globe-trotting adventure to rescue DJ's father and thwart the evil plans of the Acme Corporation's chairman, who seeks to use the Blue Monkey diamond to turn humans into monkeys.
Name and role: Speedy Gonzales isn't really part of the movie; he's only seen in the studio restaurant and complains, sarcastically, that political correctness cost him his job, Porky suffered the same fate (if this were made today, Pepé would probably be there too).
Quote:
Porky Pig: Eh, at f-first they tell me to lose the stutter. And now, they tell me I'm not funny anymore! It's a pain in the butt, being p-p-p-politically correct.
Speedy Gonzales: You're telling me.

2004-06-14 Cartoon Network Bumper
Release date: 2004-06-14
Plot: Cartoon Network used to mix the stars of their cartoons in promotional bumpers, creating unique and never-before-seen interactions. It was a wonderful way to build a shared universe between all their animated characters.
Name and role: In this bumper, Flash steps out of a store and locks eyes with Road Runner, immediately, a race begins. The two zoom past Speedy, who joins the competition. After what we can only assume is an unfathomable amount of time, the three are exhausted but tied. So, naturally... the endless race starts all over again.
Trivia and other appearances: The Looney Tunes have shared the screen with DC characters many times, like Superman in Tiny Toons: How I Spent My Vacation or Stupor Duck. Other crossovers include The Green Loontern, Batman's frequent cameos in Animaniacs, and the whole DC Universe showing up in Space Jam: A New Legacy.
