Westward Whoa
Release date:
1936-04-25
Plot:
Westward Whoa (1936) is a Looney Tunes short directed by Jack King, featuring Beans the Cat, Porky Pig, Little Kitty, and the mischievous twins Ham and Ex. In this Western-themed cartoon, the group travels as pioneers across the frontier. Ham and Ex play pranks by pretending to spot Native Americans, causing false alarms. However, when a real attack occurs, their warnings are initially dismissed due to their previous antics. The settlers must then defend themselves against the genuine threat.
Name and role:
Porky Pig steps into a more prominent role, signaling Warner Bros.' intent to elevate him as their leading character. Originally introduced in I Haven't Got a Hat (1935), Porky's stuttering charm quickly resonated with audiences, surpassing the popularity of his co-stars like Beans the Cat.
Trivia and other appearances:
This short marks the final appearance of Beans, effectively passing the torch to Porky. His increased screen time and audience appeal in this cartoon solidified his status as Warner Bros.' first true Looney Tunes star, paving the way for his enduring presence in the franchise.

Fish Tales
Release date:
1936-05-23
Plot:
After a wild boat ride that crashes into a battleship, Porky dozes off and dreams of being caught by a predatory fish. In his dream, he's brought to an underwater home where a fish family tries to cook him for dinner. Porky escapes, dodging various sea creatures, and finally wakes up in terror, quickly deciding to set all his caught fish free and hightail it home.
Name and role:
The fish family is a twisted underwater parody of human domestic life: there's the big, blustery papa fish, the devoted mama fish, and their two mischievous little fish kids. Together, they gleefully prepare Porky as their main course, bustling around the kitchen with all the cheerful menace of a cartoon cannibal sitcom.
Trivia and other appearances:
While the fish family is just here for the dream sequence and never shown again, this short is te second of Porky's earliest solo outings, establishing him as the new central character of the Looney Tunes lineup, signaling the start of his reign as the franchise's breakout star.

Injun Trouble
Release date:
1938-05-21
Plot:
Porky Pig leads a wagon train heading west, crossing dangerous territories inhabited by Native Americans. During the journey, he meets Sloppy Moe, who warns him about the threat posed by Injun Joe, a gigantic Indian chief. After a series of chases, Moe reveals that Injun Joe's weakness is tickling. Taking advantage of this information, they manage to defeat the chief.
Name and role:
Injun Joe is a stereotypical character embodying the "menacing Native American" cliché typical of the era. He's imposing, unstoppable, capable of scaring off a bear just by growling at it. The character was later brought back in Wagon Heels (1945), a color remake of the same short.
Trivia and other appearances:
Other stereotypical representations of Native Americans can be found in: Westward Whoa (1936), Scalp Trouble (1939), The Daffy Duckaroo (1942), Wagon Heels (1945), and A Feather in His Hare (1948).

Name and role:
Porky, ever the faithful squire, acts as Bugs's right-hand pig, giving us exposition through his own bewildered ears. Always neutral, always second fiddle but absolutely essential to the flow of the story.
Trivia and other appearances:
Porky also has a historical encounter with knights, though without being one himself, in Porky the Giant Killer (1939), where he replaces the armored crowd to take on an entire family of giants.

Name and role:
No one in the Looney world could possibly play Bob Cratchit better than Porky Pig. Kind, calm, tender... delicious... Sorry, my inner Taz took over for a second. Porky takes on the classic role of Scrooge's long-suffering employee, except this time, his son Timmy is none other than Tweety. Don't ask. Just roll with it.
Trivia and other appearances:
Porky would reprise the same role in the direct-to-video movie Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas (2006).

Porky Pig appears as the C.E.O. of the television network. Not long after Bugs Bunny quits his role as the network's director, Porky decides to hire the loudmouth Sam only to immediately fire (and defenestrate) him, thus closing off Sam's storyline once and for all.
Trivia and other appearances:

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Release date:
1988-06-22
Plot:
Private detective Eddie Valiant, still haunted by the death of his brother at the hands of a toon, is hired to investigate the suspected infidelity of Jessica Rabbit, wife of the famous Roger Rabbit. When tycoon Marvin Acme turns up dead, Roger becomes the prime suspect. Eddie soon finds himself entangled in a conspiracy that unveils a dark plot to destroy Toontown and its animated residents.
Name and role:
One of the most magical aspects of Who Framed Roger Rabbit was the historic collaboration between Disney and Warner Bros., which allowed iconic characters from both studios to share the screen. But this alliance didn't come without strict conditions: equal screen time and equal treatment. Disney and Warner agreed that their characters would appear for exactly the same amount of time and in no way be shown as inferior to one another. The final scene is dedicated to Porky's "that's all folks" but for the equal screen time rule, Thinkerbell stops him, magicly closing the movie.
Trivia and other appearances:
It's never happened again, even in our current age of endless cinematic universes and crossover events. And that's precisely what preserves the singular magic of this film.

Daffy Duck's Quackbusters
Release date:
1988-09-24
Plot:
Daffy Duck inherits a fortune from the reclusive millionaire J.P. Cubish, who dies laughing at Daffy's antics. The inheritance comes with a stipulation: Daffy must use the money for a public service and conduct honest business practices, or else Cubish's ghost will reclaim the fortune. To fulfill this condition, Daffy establishes a paranormal investigation agency, enlisting the help of Porky Pig, Sylvester, and Bugs Bunny.
Name and role:
Porky's the perfect employee for this gig: gullible, clueless, and easily bossed around. He brings in vibes from three classic shorts where he starred: The Prize Pest (1951), Claws for Alarm (1954), and Jumpin' Jupiter (1955) though the last one just sneaks in at the end. Quote:What's the matter with you? What are you? A schizophre... a schizodephre... a-a manic depressive or something?

Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster
Release date:
1991-02-14
Plot:
The special features Bugs Bunny conducting a classical music concert, completely unaware of a newspaper headline announcing the escape of an experimental fly that can't be killed. As the show unfolds, various Looney Tunes characters perform musical numbers, while the fly wreaks havoc among the audience and performers alike.
Name and role:
Daffy Duck and Porky Pig perform Gioachino Rossini's William Tell Overture, the music naturally evokes The Lone Ranger theme, and the short plays into that connection. At the end of the segment, after miraculously surviving Daffy's attacks, Porky asks aloud who the mysterious cowboy summoned by the music might be.
Trivia and other appearances:
Daffy and Porky's comedic duo goes all the way back to the 1930s decades, forming one of the longest-standing pairings in Looney Tunes history. But this is one of the rare occasions where Porky taps into real toon power, escaping Daffy's homicidal hijinks without explanation, just pure cartoon logic, no questions asked.

De-Zanitized
Release date:
1993-09-13
Plot:
Dr. Scratchansniff attempts to psychoanalyze Yakko, Wakko, and Dot to figure out what makes them so chaotic. His therapy sessions quickly spiral into madness as the Warner siblings outwit and overwhelm him with their zany antics. In the end, it's the doctor who needs therapy.
Name and role:
The episode opens at the Warner Bros. studio lot, where they want to show celebrities coming and going. And what better cameo for that than Porky Pig? The big ham of the company, causing a traffic jam as he stammers his way through a greeting to Ralph the Guard.
Trivia and other appearances:
Okay, I'm making a bit of a leap here, but isn't the way Porky drives into the studio in his little car a direct callback to You Ought to Be in Pictures from 1940? Check it out and let me know.

The Warners' 65th Anniversary Special
Release date:
1994-05-23
Plot:
The Warner siblings are honored in a mockumentary-style TV special celebrating their (fake) 65th anniversary in showbiz. Through interviews, archival clips, and behind-the-scenes antics, the segment parodies Hollywood retrospectives while exploring the "history" of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot.
Name and role:
I may sound like a broken record with these cameo descriptions: every famous Looney Tunes character has something terrible to say about the Warners. Each one gets their moment in the spotlight via mock interviews, reminiscing about the chaotic past they shared with Yakko, Wakko, and Dot... sometimes through gritted teeth and cartoon trauma.
Trivia and other appearances:
These cameos are peak vintage Warner Bros.: pure, distilled metanarrative. For an actual documentary experience though, go check out 100th Anniversary Looney Tunes Cartoons (2023, streaming on Max).

Carrotblanca
Release date:
1995-08-25
Plot:
Bugs Bunny runs a nightclub during World War II. When he gets tangled up in a plot involving secret documents, he must choose between helping his old flame, Kitty Ketty, or maintaining his cherished neutrality.
Name and role:
This short needed to fill in the background of its nightclub scenes, so it brought in a whole bunch of Looney Tunes characters as bar patrons or workers. Among them was Porky Pig
Trivia and other appearances:
There's really no point in listing all of Porky Pig's appearances, right? He's been in everything. In this short, his role is so brief there's not even a similar performance worth referencing.
1996-11-10
Space Jam
Release date:
1996-11-10
Plot:
Basketball legend Michael Jordan teams up with Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes to win a wild basketball game against alien villains called the Monstars. The aliens stole NBA players' talents, so it's up to Jordan and the Tunes to slam, jam, and bring the chaos. It's sports meets cartoons in the most 90s crossover ever.
Name and role:
Porky faces the Monstars situation with incredible grace and dignity; if by "grace" you mean peeing himself and by "dignity" you mean getting pancaked into a deli slice by two Monstars' butts.
Trivia and other appearances:
Additional film appearances of Porky Pig with a better role: I Haven't Got a Hat (1935), Porky in Wackyland (1938), Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century (1953), The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie (1981), Daffy Duck's Fantastic Island (1983) and of course Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021).

Back in Style
Release date:
1997-11-08
Plot:
After the closure of Warner Bros. Animation in 1962, studio head Thaddeus Plotz fires all animated characters to various other animation studios to keep the company afloat. The Warners find themselves in parodies of different animation styles.
Name and role:
Right at the beginning of the episode, we see a classic "walk of shame" scene where characters like Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Bugs Bunny are shown carrying their personal belongings out of the studio right after being fired.
Trivia and other appearances:
Warner Bros. often uses this kind of cameo to create a sense of cohesion between the various narrative universes of different series. It plays into the same idea popularized by Who Framed Roger Rabbit that cartoon characters are just actors working for the studios, clocking in and out like everyone else, only with a bit more boing and kaboom in their workday.
