Outback Buddy
Release date:
1929-24-06
Plot:
Buddy plays his sappy little song without a care in the world, until his new sidekicks smash him over the head. That's all.
Name and role:
According to the archives from 'The Animaniacs 65th Anniversary Special' Buddy was supposed to be the WB star on par with Bosko. The problem was, he had no appeal, just this huge head and big eyes. So in his official first short, they paired him up with some brand new cartoon characters, the Warners, who, instead of enriching the stories, spent their time beating up Buddy.
Trivia and other appearances:
Obviously, in reality this cartoon doesn't exist. Buddy's actual first appearance was in 1933, and he went on to star in quite a few shorts of the era. As for the Warners, audiences had to wait until the 1990s to see their series, and later, the reboot.

Buddy's Day Out
Release date:
1933-09-09
Plot:
Buddy and his girlfriend Cookie go on a countryside trip by car with a restless baby and a little dog in tow. The day fills up with comic disasters between flat tires and failed attempts at picnicking. But through chaos and little songs, Buddy never loses his smile.
Name and role:
Buddy was the character chosen by Warner Bros. to replace Bosko after the end of their contract with Harman & Ising in 1933. Created by Earl Duvall and Tom Palmer, he was meant to embody a more modern and "white" protagonist, in contrast with Bosko's African-American stylization. However, Buddy never really won over the audience: his personality was considered bland and, although his shorts were musical and lively, they lacked the charisma of Warner's future stars. After just over two years and 23 shorts, he was dropped to make way for much more iconic figures like Porky Pig.
Trivia and other appearances:
Since this is his first appearance, here are all the titles of his shorts: Buddy's Day Out (1933), Buddy's Beer Garden (1933), Buddy's Show Boat (1933), Buddy the Gob (1934), Buddy and Towser (1934), Buddy the Detective (1934), Buddy the Woodsman (1934), Buddy's Garage (1934), Buddy's Circus (1934), Buddy's Trolley Troubles (1934), Buddy of the Apes (1934), Buddy the Dentist (1934), Buddy's Adventures (1934), Buddy the Gee Man (1935), Buddy Steps Out (1935), Buddy's Theatre (1935), Buddy's Pony Express (1935), Buddy in Africa (1935), A Cartoonist's Nightmare (1935), Buddy the Teacher (1935), Hollywood Capers (1935), Buddy's Bug Hunt (1935), Mr. and Mrs. Is the Name (1935).

The Warners' 65th Anniversary Special
Release date:
1994-05-23
Plot:
The Warner siblings are honored in a mockumentary-style TV special celebrating their (fake) 65th anniversary in showbiz. Through interviews, archival clips, and behind-the-scenes antics, the segment parodies Hollywood retrospectives while exploring the "history" of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot.
Name and role:
The crown jewel of this episode's cameo parade? Buddy. Yep, that Buddy: the bland, milquetoast hero of the 1930s. Shown mostly through old archive footage, we discover he's still haunting the Warner lot like a modern-day Phantom of the Opera, hell-bent on getting revenge against the Warners for ruining his life.
Trivia and other appearances:
Want to see more of Buddy? (why?) He was the face of Looney Tunes right after Bosko. Just look up almost any short from the early 1930s and odds are, one out of every two will star that forgettable face with the musical smile.
